So far the Pirates made two trades:
1-Tony Watson for Inf Oneil Cruz and RHP Angel German Both are several years from MLB so we will not know if they will succeed until later. Trading Watson was a no-brainer. He will be an FA after this season and it doubtful the Pirates would tried to sign him. Watson was the 3rd longest player on the team. Only McCutchen and Harrison have been with the team longer.
2-RHP Seth McGarry for RHP Joaquin Benoit and cash to cover some of his salary. Benoit has pitched as well if not better than Watson but he is 40 and will be an FA after the season.
