Off-Season News of the Day

The Pirates racked up another award from the Sporting News as they named Clint Hurdle as the NL Manager of the Year.  This was voted on by the managers and what surprised me is that Don Mattingly received zero votes.

  • In other news the Pirates have given permission to the Phillies to talk to Jim Benedict about their pitching coach opening.  Benedict is probably best known as the guy who changed Charlie Morton's delivery but it's clear he has had much more of an impact with the Pirates than just there.  How odd... forgot what it was like to be good and ultimately have other teams start poaching your coaching talent.
