Tyler Webb was selected from the Yankees in the Rule 5 draft. That means the Pirates must keep on their 25 man roster all season or trade him to another team. If they drop him from the 25 the team they drafted him from can reclaim him.
Webb was drafted by the Reds in the 48th round of the 2011 draft and did not sign. He was drafted by the Yankees in the 10th round of the 2013 draft. After spending 2013 in low A and A he advanced quickly and reached AAA in 2014. He remained in AAA through the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Webb was used strictly as a reliever until last season when he started 5 games while relieving in 31. Through 4 minor league seasons he has record of 12-13 with a 3.48 ERA. He has averaged 11.1 strikeouts per 9 innings while walking 2.7 per 9 innings
