YTD Stats & More

*The picture above is courtesy of me (BFFL). That's me with Piccolo, one of my best buddies. We had to put him down on August 3rd, due to diabetes. He was something else and went to work with my dad, Sankey, every day. I figured since I was sharing August stats and my opinions, I could share a picture of me with my pal that I miss a bunch. He was a "gentle giant" and a Pirates fan.

Since the Pirates have Thursday off before welcoming the Reds in for three and the Cubs in for four, I thought I would take the opportunity to provide you with stats through August.

Saying it's not pretty, might be the understatement of the century. Hard to say it's a surprise, considering nothing has been done during the past two off-seasons and nothing was done when Kang couldn't make it back and Marte was suspended 80 games for juicing. There had to be moves made and it never seemed to be the right date to make that happen per our GM.

My post, my opinion. If you agree/disagree, it will just be another talking point. If I don't comment, it's because I have to pick up my brother and his family at 4:30 and may not be on again today/tonight. You will see why, below.

Here we go, YTD Stats:

  • Pirates Runs Scored: 560
  • Opponents Runs Scored: 629 (Wednesday night at Wrigley didn't help... DUH)

  • Total Pirates hitters K's: 981
  • Record vs. NL Central: 25-29

All of these stats are readily available with a click from JAL'S Morning Links. It's always Link 4B. I update the spread-sheet nightly and audit it once a week to ensure my numbers match Baseball Reference. Be sure to check out the tabs at the bottom, which are clearly marked. One more tip about the spread sheet. At some point, during the year, I began to link the box-score from the Washington Post. That's the same one you see in the post-game thread each night. You will see a little black triangle in the win column or the loss column, it all depends on the outcome. You are able to copy and paste that into a new browser to view that particular box-score.

On a side note, I have a cousin getting married this weekend and I am in the wedding. I will not be around Friday night or Saturday. We also have lots of family flying in, starting this afternoon. I will have my threads ready to go, but will most likely not be able to provide a post-game. JAL is always willing to help, when available. I do not know his schedule and don't expect him to do it unless he wishes or can. So, you may be on your own a bit. I am sure everyone will make it.

As always, if you missed JAL'S Morning Links, you can find them here.
