The Four Freshmen were formed at Butler University in 1948. Their peak popularity was in the 1950om but their influence still exits. Brian Wison often speaks about the their influence on his music. Donald Fagan’s song Maxine was probably inspired by the Four Freshmen. Although the last original member of the group retired in 1993 the group continues to record and tour. The group most recently won DownBeat magazine's Readers Poll for Best Vocal Group in 2001.
